1st step in becoming an Erasmus intern

Many of you probably know what the Erasmus programme is about. Studying abroad has become a dream to many international students. But did you know that you can also do a work placement as part of Erasmus? For example me, I'm currently doing a marketing internship at a 1Global Translators in Barcelona.

It's not an easy process to become an Erasmus intern. You need to find a company where you want to do an internship, apply to Erasmus at your college and wait for confirmation. Usually its easier to get nominated for Erasmus work placement than studying abroad as not many students are interested in internship. Btw, employers value international working experience far more than studying.

You can choose whatever country you want, so you are not bound to choose only from the countries and universities  your college has a contract with. And nowadays, within new programme Erasmus+ you can actually do both, work placement and study abroad again. You can study one semester at Madrid, another at Paris and than you can do an intership in some other country as well. Well, isn't that amazing? But bear in mind that the rules of participation differ from one university to another.

Finding the right company that would take you as an intern is not easy. I spent many weeks trying to find the right one. You can ask you university coordinator for the some internship offers but you should also be a little bit more active yourself. Linkedin is a good source of internship offers. Also you should chcek if there is a database where students who participate in the programme write some useful information.

Check the deadlines for submiting the application at your university so you will have enough time for searching for the company. Write to as many companies as you can, don't restrict your searching to one specific country. Don't give up if nobody writes you back, finding the company is in fact the hardest part of the programme.

In the next post I will write something about the documents you need to submit as part of your application and I will also add some tips that I find useful.

Don't hesitate to ask any question :)
